Discover one of the key elements of our village's very rich religious heritage: the chapels. This guided tour will allow you to discover 3 chapels, Passy, Salvagny and Le Fay.
Registration required through one of the tourist offices or by clicking on the 'Reservation' tab. Chapels are spread out, only access by car.
These chapels, full of charm and surprises, are architecturally typical of Savoy and particularly of the Giffre valley, with their magnificent bulb steeples. The village of Sixt is made up of a centre surrounded by 17 hamlets. This configuration is found in most of our small Savoy villages. We could describe these hamlets as small villages within the village. Most of them have their own bread oven, their own pond and some have their own chapel. Sixt has nine chapels, all of which were built in the 17th century, except for Salmoiry and Sales. At that time, there was a great burst of faith through the parish, each hamlet was keen to have its small sanctuary whose bell tower would protect the houses, and where Mass would be said from time to time; it was a visible guardian.
